The George Mason University Department of Mechanical Engineering, within the Volgenau School of Engineering, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position beginning Fall 2021. Exceptionally strong senior candidates may also be considered, and must have an established record of outstanding research, demonstrated funding, and excellent teaching. Such candidates may be eligible for tenured Associate Professor or Professor positions. Responsibilities Successful candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; develop an independent, externally funded research program; advise students; participate in all aspects of the department's mission; and serve the profession. Collaborations within and beyond Mason, or as part of initiatives and cooperative ventures are encouraged.

Required Qualifications Applicants must have received a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field by the start date of the position, and should have demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in research, and a commitment to high-quality teaching.

Preferred Qualifications Applicants in all areas of mechanical engineering will be given serious consideration. We are particularly interested in candidates in the areas of mechatronics, robotics, and autonomous systems.

About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mason is a young department, having received accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, retroactive to October 1, 2015. The department currently offers both a BS and a minor in Mechanical Engineering, a graduate certificate in naval ship design, and a Mechanical Engineering concentration in the School-wide PhD in Information Technology.
