Department of Cyber Security Engineering, Volgenau School of Engineering: Adjunct Faculty

The George Mason University Department of Cyber Security Engineering, within the Volgenau School of Engineering, invites interested applicants to join the faculty as part-time Adjunct Faculty members who are available to teach Fall 2020 sessions which may begin as soon as early as August 25th, 2020 or Spring 2021 that is scheduled to start on January 19, 2021. Adjunct faculty members are needed to either teach required course(s) in the major, or through engineering expertise develop elective course(s) that meet the needs of the program. Courses are offered at the Fairfax Campus and are planned to extend to the Arlington Campus during daytime or evening hours.

Expertise in the following courses are needed: - CYSE 610 Networks and Cybersecurity - CYSE 580 Hardware and Cyber Physical Systems - CYSE 570 Fundamentals of Operating Systems - CYSE 462 Mobile Devices / Network Security - CYSE 476 Cryptography Fundamentals - CYSE 330 Introduction to Network Security - CYSE 325 Discrete Events System Modeling - CYSE 230 Computer networking

Responsibilities: * Prepare and teach assigned courses at assigned class meetings, based on course catalog description and approved course outline; * Prepare and objectively grade class assignments and exams within a timely manner, in accordance with course outcomes; * Maintain accurate, transparent student records; * Assist and foster student success through the maintenance of regularly scheduled office hours and timely responses to e-mail inquiries; * Adhere to all administrative university policies such as the timely submission of completed midterm and final grades; * Maintain appropriate professional development to stay current within assigned courses; * Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics; * Other duties as assigned by contract and/or by the Course Coordinator.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree in CyberSecurityor a closely related field; * Solid verbal and written communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications: * PhD or a terminal degree inCyber Security or a closely related field; * Experience with a learning management system, preferably Blackboard; * Relevant professional experience; * Teaching experience at the college level.

About the Department The Cyber Security Engineering Program is concerned with the development of cyber-resilient systems, which includes the protection of the physical, computer, and network systems. It requires a proactive approach in engineering design of physical systems with cyber security incorporated from the beginning of system development.

Cyber security engineering is an important quantitative methodology to be used in all industries to include, but not limited to, transportation, energy, healthcare, infrastructure, finance, government (federal, state, and local), and defense. The program is focused on the cyber security engineering of integrated cyber-physical systems. Our BS degree provides a foundation in cyber security engineering, and is most appropriate for students with a strong mathematics and science background. We anticipate having an MS degree in Spring 2021. This department currently has 6 faculty and is expected to grow rapidly in the near future.
