Job Description

The Washington Post's publishing team is looking for empathetic full-stack engineers who would like to work closely with our newsroom, our product team and other engineering teams to build and maintain our fleet of publishing tools. Our ideal candidates are creative problem solvers who are comfortable evaluating our processes and recommending change. Pair programming, documentation, learning stipends and dedicated time to present new ideas every week are how we foster teamwork and growth. This position is remote-friendly for work in the US.

Our main publishing tools stack is Node and React, deployed with idiomatic AWS. Our stack also includes some Java and Mongo as well, but past experience with these tools is not a requirement for the job.

**This position could be 100% remote in the US for the right candidate.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to technical architecture and code.
  • Comfortable breaking down complex technical tasks into smaller pieces.
  • Can evaluate solutions using product and design thinking.
  • Wants to dig into an existing codebase and learn its secrets.

Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of software development experience.
  • Experience building and maintaining software applications in a team setting.
  • Comfortable reading documentation or reaching out when hitting a roadblock.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

The innovation doesn't end in the Newsroom - dozens of teams power The Washington Post. We are now hiring the next innovator - how will you Impact Tomorrow?
