Summary

About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Military Programs Directorate located in Washington, D.C. and will be filled on a temporary basis. Please see additional information under "Application Requirements" below.

Responsibilities

  • Create work items and resource plans to track salary and travel expenses, accept funds, training requests, trainee evaluations and obtain necessary access permissions.
  • Examine methods, procedures, policies, organizational structures staffing, and reporting requirements in order to improve administrative support efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Regularly communicate with employees and field counterparts regarding a variety of non-operational and technical matters such as administrative guidelines, operational procedures, statuses of reports, and funding.
  • Evaluate the impact of new or revised policies, procedures or specific legal, budget, supply and other requirements on Division operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below . Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: To qualify, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the General Schedule (GS) 06 Grade Level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as:
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, directing, evaluating, and implementing Division administrative support operations
  • Operate within automated systems (e.g. Corps of Engineers Financial Management System) to electronically transmit a wide variety of information
  • Utilize computer programs (e.g. Microsoft products) to review, create, and edit a variety of correspondence in accordance with applicable requirements
  • Ensure proper format, spelling, grammar, distribution, signature authorizations of a wide variety of correspondence in accordance with applicable requirements.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a GS position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

Selective Placement Factor: This is an Office Automation position that requires the incumbent to be a qualified typist, 40 words per minute.

Education

Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Additional information

  • If selected candidate is a current permanent Army employee, this position may be filled as a temporary promotion, temporary reassignment, or temporary change to lower grade not-to-exceed 180 days. Temporary promotions, reassignments, or changes to lower grades may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years, and may be made permanent without further competition.
  • If selected candidate is not a current permanent Army employee, this position may be filled as a temporary appointment not-to-exceed 180 days. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum total of 3 years.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
