Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance to gastroenterology staff physicians in the delivery of clinical therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within a surgical department.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct patients on initial preparation and provides preliminary counseling for many highly technical diagnostic and treatment procedures in the Gastroenterology Procedure Suite as a procedure technician.
  • Maintain a variety of supplies, files and records related to Gastroenterology Clinic and Sterile Processing Department activities and functions.
  • Assist physician in various specialized and emergency therapeutic treatment procedures in the Gastroenterology Procedure Suite.
  • Performs sterilization of instrumentation in the Sterile Processing Department in conjunction with gastroenterology technician duties.

  • REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • INFLUENZA IMMUNIZATION- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • SHIFT WORK- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • DRUG TESTING - The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing.
  • INCLEMENT WEATHER- The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
  • MODERATE TO HEAVY LIFTING -This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • CHILDCARE BACKGROUND CHECKS AND INVESTIGATION- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • PHYSICAL - This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Exam and an annual exam thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting in preparing the equipment and medication needed for medical procedures; 2) assisting medical technicians in the cleaning of medical supplies used for procedures; AND 3) performing administrative functions such as, maintaining patient files and inputting information into organizational software program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
