The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's role is to oversee various aspects of the energy industry, including transmission of electricity, natural gas and oil. We also analyze proposals to build liquefied natural gas terminals and interstate natural gas pipelines and license hydropower projects. To help support the modernization of the electric system here in the U.S., we are focusing on issues associated with a smarter grid.

This position is located in the Office of Enforcement, which serves the public interest by ensuring effective regulations and protecting customers through understanding markets and their regulation, timely identifying and remedying market problems, assuring compliance with Commission rules and regulations, and detecting and crafting remedies to address market manipulation and other non-compliance issues.

Major Duties for this position:

- Applying professional accounting principles and technical analysis to solve moderately complex accounting issues as they relate to the Commission's regulation of energy companies. Serving as an accounting analyst to explain and interpret the Uniform System of Accounts, other pertinent Commission policies and programs, and GAAP as it relates to the entities regulated by the Commission.

- Drafting accurate, clear, and logical analysis to present sound recommendations on the accounting for moderately complex accounting matters.

- Assisting senior accounting staff in the development and maintenance of the Commission's Uniform System of Accounts to provide accounting guidance to the energy companies regulated by the Commission.

- Working independently and with teams on a variety of moderately complex accounting issues.

In addition to meeting the OPM Educational Requirement for Accountants, candidates must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level or meet educational options as described in question for basic requirements. Specialized Experience is defined as:

Demonstrated experience leading projects involving the application of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Commission's Uniform System of Accounts, or cost-of-service ratemaking concepts and principles. Projects may include work in accounting policy, rate cases, or financial statement audits.

Experience working at a utility or large accounting firm highly preferred.
