Description Job Description Leidos is seeking a V2X RD Software Engineer to join our team of Transportation Technologists. The Software Engineer will join a highly successful team in researching and developing Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) technologies to shape the future or transportation. The Saxton Transportation and Operations Laboratory (STOL) in McLean VA, is the USDOT's premiere research and development laboratory for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology. Our team of over 40 engineers and scientists advance CAV technology for the USDOT by developing, testing, and supporting the adoption of technologies associated with Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure communications as well as Cooperative Driving Automation (CDA). The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties surrounding V2X technology as well as quickly adapt to research and development (RD) needs. The role will be a leader in software development as part of a larger research team developing new connected and automated technologies for FHWA. This work involves development and maintenance of various back end systems for such things as roadside data collection and storage, web mapping tools, communications and data transfer, and data analysis, as well as work on vehicle on-board software for automation and connectivity. The successful candidate will mentor junior staff and may be asked to manage small projects as the organization and contractual situation evolves. Location Due to COVID-19, the team is working primarily from home, however this position is expected to go into the lab as needed. This position will need to be onsite in the lab in McLean, VA fulltime, post COVID-19. Primary Responsibilities Responsible for developing software, primarily using C++ Technical interaction and discussion with customer and in-house development teams Design and Document software components for maximum efficiency Development of a suitable project-specific software architecture in conjunction with software platform and re-use requirements Build and maintain trust with key FHWA stakeholders to facilitate communication on RD priorities Additional duties to include RSE testing, test planning and development, software integration, system testing, and user documentation Required Education, Skills, and Experience Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering or other science discipline 2+ years' experience in a professional or academic setting Excellent experience with C++ Experience working with Java, Python, SQL, Linux, and Windows Experience developing to published standards Wireless communications, including cellular and WiFi Understanding of communication protocols - TCPUDP, SNMP Working knowledge of UML design language Experience developing data interfaces and documenting Interface Control Documentation (ICD) Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Extra consideration given for experience in any of the following Master's degree Experience with ROS Direct experience with Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) Experience in analysis of wireless, RF and communicationscellular network performance Network design, configuration, and maintenance Knowledge of IP concepts, techniques and common practices (eg working with sockets, internal vs external IP addressing, routing, etc.) Experience with Jira, Git, Maven, and Gradle Knowledge in any of the following ITS applications, transportation systems, performing channel loading analysis, test planning and execution, IEEE, SAE, NTCIP, and other related standards External Referral Bonus Ineligible Potential for Telework No Clearance Level Required None Travel Yes, 10 of the time Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Shift Day Requisition Category Professional Job Family Software Engineering Pay Range Leidos is a Fortune 500 Registered information technology, engineering, and science solutions and services leader working to solve the world's toughest challenges in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil, and health markets.
