Principal Risk Specialist - Card Risk Team

Card Risk is seeking to add a high performing team member. On the Card Risk Team you will be responsible for working with business partners to identify and consult on potential risks to Capital One. At Capital One, we are the first line of defense to ensure our Company remains well-managed and profitable.

As a team member you may have the opportunity to take part in conversations consulting with internal and external partners (e.g., risk managers, compliance and credit policy advisor, business teams etc.), dive deep into processes to understand performance, and drive improvement through your insights. Additionally, you may have the chance to perform data analysis, leverage process skills (Lean/Six Sigma) and function as a coach and mentor to others on your team and across US Card.

A successful Risk Specialist operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business with whom they are working, laws / regulations and good Risk Management practices. They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept. Risk Specialists have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to appropriately manage risks within the Card business.

Responsibilities:
  • Consult on Risk to one or more business partners providing advice and guidance as required.
  • Effectively challenge our business partners, 2nd (Compliance and ORM) and 3rd lines (Audit).
  • Analyze data to proactively identify risks and trends
  • Stay current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to your businesses
  • Drive collaboration between the risk, compliance and other business support functions (e.g., legal, privacy).
  • Provide oversight and guidance during risk assessments.
  • Provides guidance to businesses and supporting functions in implementing risk management practices.
  • Participate in risk forums and contribute to continuous improvement of risk management practices.
  • Support, partner and interact with internal business clients.
  • Set direction, manage expectations and lead cross-functional teams


Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification
  • At least 2 years of experience in Risk Management


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2+ years of experience in Analytics
  • 2+ years of Agile or Design Thinking experience
  • 2+ years Process Management experience OR at least 2 years of Project Management experience
  • 3+ year of experience in Risk Management
  • Lean, Agile, Six Sigma, Business Process Management, or Project management certification
  • Risk Certification (CRCM, CAMS, CIPP, ABA Risk Management Certification)
