The Metro Transit Police Department protects and serves a population of 3.2 million throughout the 1,500-square mile Transit Zone that includes the District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and Commonwealth of Virginia by providing a variety of law enforcement and public safety functions. The Metro Transit Police Department Digital Video Evidence Unit is located within the Metro Transit Police Department's Security Operations Control Center and utilizes state-of-the-art CCTV equipment and software to assist in providing a safe and secure environment for all Metro customers and employees.

The Metro Transit Police Department Digital Video Evidence Unit Technician is responsible for real-time live video monitoring & reporting in addition to reviewing & recovering recorded video from one or more of the thousands of cameras located on WMATA property which includes Metro Stations, Metro Buses, and Metro Railcars. Video recovery may require travel throughout the Transit Zone which includes response to incident locations and crime scenes. Depending upon the need of the organization, this position may require shift work, which would be various hours. The Metro Transit Police Department offers a rich benefit package to include health, dental, group life insurance, paid holidays, annual and sick leave, 457 Deferred Compensation Plan and 401a Retirement Plan as well as tuition reimbursement, flexible spending accounts. The salary range for this position is: $49,141.00-$73,712.00.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
  • A minimum of a High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
    Experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a police or security related field

  • Associate's Degree or higher with emphasis on Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Service, Information Systems Management, Video Technologies or a related field

    Job Summary:

    The Digital Video Evidence Technician is responsible for the proactive monitoring of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems, comprised mainly of cameras located on Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation (WMATA) property. The incumbent is responsible for the handling and processing of recorded images designed to bear witness to criminal and civil liability matters that are requested by Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) members and other internal or external entities. These recordings are from both mobile and fixed recording systems. The Digital Video Evidence Technician is required to drive to locations within the transit zone on a frequent basis to accomplish this accountability, and to testify about the work product during administrative hearing or a court. The incumbent is also responsible for acknowledging and responding to a variety of WMATA related security notifications.

    Essential Functions:
  • Organizes and executes the recovery of images upon request for a variety of internal and external entities. Recovery locations include, but are not limited, to rail stations, buses, railcars, and other WMATA facilities.
  • Responsible for acknowledging and processing both video analytic and intrusion detection alarms in a timely and efficient manner consistent with established policy.
  • Monitors events in "real time" as they unfold and provides pertinent details to responding units in conjunction with the MTPD Communications Divisions (CD).
  • Reviews requests for digital video evidence and process requests in a manner consistent with established policy. Provides copies of video in accordance with WMATA's Public Access to Records Policy (PARP) and responds to court issued subpoenas as directed by supervisory personnel.
  • Conducts system checks to ensure proper camera operation and completes repair orders as needed.
  • Ensures that video images are only released to authorized WMATA personnel and to representatives of duly sworn law enforcement agencies for criminal investigations, pursuant to court order, subpoenas, or PARP requests.
  • Maintains a master file of all recovered video in accordance with WMATA's policies, as well as, local, state, and federal laws.
  • Testifies in court as needed.
