Summary

This position is located in the Protection Directorate at the United States Mint, Washington, DC. The Protection Directorate safeguards the United States' assets and artifacts including the nation's gold supply and provides expert security advice and counsel to the United States Mint, other government agencies and foreign governments; and enforces Federal, State and local Laws.

Responsibilities

All candidates who are:
Current or former federal employees qualifying as Status Candidates , Federal employees currently serving on a VRA, VEOA eligibles , CTAP/ICTAP eligibles, eligible for special hiring authorities (e.g., the Schedule A appointment for persons with disabilities, or covered by an Interchange Agreement), or VRA eligible OR Land Management employees eligible under Public Law 114-47 .

The following are the duties of this position at the TR-08. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Protect dies, monetary, and bullion assets in the custody or control of the United States Mint during production, processing, storage, transportation, or other use; protect all facility space and property against theft, assault, sabotage; and protect United States Mint employees and visitors from threats or hazards of physical harm or injury, violence in the workplace, criminal acts such as assault or robbery, and acts of terrorism.
  • Apprehend, detain, and/or arrest persons considered extremely violent, mentally disturbed or intoxicated, and risk the ever present dangers of breaking and entering, trespassing occurrences on Federal property, armed robbery confrontations, and the protection of Federal officials and respective employees.
  • Perform patrol duties as deterrence to crime and other violations of laws, rules, and regulations.

Physical Requirements:

(Based on an 12-hour shift)

a. Must wear clothing and gear weighing approximately 30 pounds: Must wear equipment belt (with equipment) weighing approximately10 lbs.; Must wear a bulletproof vest weighing approximately10 lbs.; Must wear riot gear (turtle suit/red man suit) weighing approximately 10 lbs when required.

b. And be physically capable of satisfactorily performing the following requirements in the specified timeframes.

• Crawls (up to 30% of the time)

The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 14 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience:
For the TR-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: A 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
OR
A combination of specialized experience and education in a Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.

* Note: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the TR-06, you may be advanced to the TR-06 position if you have held a position no lower than GS-03 in the preceding year under your latest non-temporary competitive appointment OR have held a position at GS-05 or higher under a non-temporary appointment at any time in the past.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- All employees are required to wear face masks while on MINT property.
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

- Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
- File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
- Undergo an income tax verification.
- Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, fixed shift, 12 hour schedule. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on any shift.
- May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position.
- Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- Pass a pre-employment psychological evaluation.
- Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
- Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.
- Complete or have previously completed training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA.
- Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license OR within 90 days of appointment (as appropriate) and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.
- Tattoos/Branding/Intentional Scarring- Visible tattoos, brands, or other body art on the head, face, neck, or scalp are prohibited. Additional markings on the visible part of the arms will not cover more than 25% of the exposed area.
