Summary

As a Research Analyst, you will carry out a variety of analytical, computational, research, and related technical activities In support of the senior economists, mathematicians, financial analysts, and other members of the OCC's Economics Department.This position is located in the OCC's Economics Department in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

As a Research Analyst you will:
  • Demonstrate substantial quantitative skill and competencies teamed from highly analytical disciplines such as economics, mathematics, statistics, operations research, finance, computer science, etc.
  • Compile and prepare comprehensive summaries and quantitative analyses of related articles and original research papers using primary and secondary source material such as academic journals, market sources, and government reports, prepares reports that support Economics Department projects and Initiatives.
  • Uses various statistical software applications/languages (such as MATLAB, R, c++, SAS, and STATA) to perform statistical/simulation analysts on financial and economic data In support of, or to extend research activities, Including those directly related to bank examination/supervision. Identifies opportunities and takes action to facilitate and improve data preparation and analysis.
  • Develop programs, writes functions, and runs financial, banking, and macroeconomic models related to the banking industry.
  • Work particularly closely with financial economists and quantitative experts. Apply sound judgment and creativity In applying quantitative analysis to all research assignments.
  • Actively maintain knowledge of current developments In the financial market, and associated legislative Initiatives that affect banks.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

Degree (Undergraduate and/or Graduate): Economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR
A combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Examples of qualifying experience include: a) individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; b) supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or c) teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
AND

In addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENTS above, you must meet and/or possess at least one of the following:
One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the NB-III band level or GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position is experience:

- Applying analytical and research techniques (e.g., econometrics, quantitative analysis, etc.) to collect and analyze economic and financial data; AND
- Utilizing computer and statistical software applications to analyze data, develop reports, and present economic, financial or statistical information. OR
You must have graduate education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Qualifying education includes: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. One year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study.
OR

You must have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate education.

The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
