Racial Equity and Justice Fellow

The Center for Public Health Policy at the American Public Health Association (APHA) highlights the connections between communities — where we live, work, play and learn — and our collective health.  The Center advances evidence-based policies and practices to address the social determinants of health and create health equity for all; and serves as a catalyst for positive change by influencing public policy at all levels of government and within the private sector.  The Racial Equity and Justice Fellow leads coordination of several racial equity policy and practice initiatives including (but not limited to): Identifying evidence-based policies and practices for advancing racial equity and justice; developing written tools and resources; producing webinars and other educational activities; and monitoring and analyzing state and local actions to advance racial equity and justice.  The fellow conducts research, writing and communication activities; coordinates events, meetings, and calls; and liaises with other APHA units and external partners as appropriate.  Perform other duties as assigned.  This is a temporary, grant-funded position that is guaranteed for eight months.

Master’s degree and at least four years of work experience in health disparities, health equity and/or racial equity policy or practice.  Alternatively, the candidate may have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of six years of proven relevant experience or related work.  Knowledge of institutional and structural racism.  Understanding of income, racial and place-based inequities and related current dialogue at the national, state and local levels.  Demonstrated experience developing educational resources on racial equity.  Excellent research, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.  Flexibility and adaptability to work on a variety of assignments and manage multiple projects at the same time.  Ability to thoughtfully communicate with and respectfully engage diverse stakeholders.

Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations.  Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Mon- Fri. (daytime).  Number of openings: 1.
