Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an experienced reporter to join our Climate Solutions team, which showcases the efforts of people, organizations and government to mitigate global warming and address environmental degradation.

The ideal candidate is a graceful and prolific writer who can bring clarity and insight to complex topics; build a broad range of sources in business, government and academia; and spot newsy developments about climate-related innovations around the nation and the globe. This reporter will collaborate with photo, video and graphics journalists to produce visually immersive stories, a hallmark of Climate Solutions coverage. And we are eager to hear from candidates who have a record of executing textured profiles.

Experience covering climate and the environment is not required, but applicants should be able to convey scientific matters to a broad audience. This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Those interested should send a cover letter outlining a vision for the role, a resume and three clips (as PDFs) to our jobs portal by Feb. 5. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Climate and Environment Editor Trish Wilson, Deputy Environment Editor Lyndsey Layton, National Editor Steven Ginsberg, Deputy National Editor Lori Montgomery, and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson by Feb. 5.
