The Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) is the central facility for the acquisition, preservation, protection, retrieval, and dissemination of scientific and technical information (STI) supporting the Research and Engineering (R&E) needs of the Department of Defense (DoD), as well as federal and industry partners. DTIC provides leading edge information services and analysis products to the DoD community as a recognized leader in information and knowledge management innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the executive assistant, office manager and administrative focal point to the Administrator and Deputy Administrators in the Office of the Administrator and provides administrative support to the DTIC General Counsel.
  • Serves as the Administrator's key administrative liaison between the Office of the Administrator, DTIC Directorates and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) components regarding administrative management functions.
  • Functions independently within a broad framework of established policy, Administrator's intent, and regulatory guidance.
  • Provides executive direction, assistance, and support for all administrative operations at DTIC as delineated by the Administrator.

Qualifications

Time in Grade:
For entry at the GS-11 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-09 or higher grade in the Federal Service.

Specialized Experience:
For the GS-11, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-09 if outside the Federal service, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as experience coordinating executive meetings, interacting with senior executives and political appointees in person, via telephone and email. Experience screening calls and taking detailed phone messages. Experience formatting, copy editing, coordinating and tracking formal correspondence. Experience tracking and following up with subordinate organizations on status of directed tasks. Using MS Office to include advanced functionality of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; and experience using internet tools including wikis and web pages. Experience administering records management.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, qualified applicants must also possess the quality of experience as it relates to how closely or to what extent an applicant's background, recency of experience, education, and training are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the announced position. Candidates must clearly demonstrate the possession of knowledge, skills and abilities, or competencies necessary to successfully perform the work of the position at the appropriate level to be qualified for the position. Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 LEVEL: Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed higher-level graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
