Responsibilities

Central Virginia VA Health care system in Richmond, Virginia is seeking a full time or part time BE/BC fellowship trained Musculoskeletal Radiologist. VA facility is one of the largest major 1A facility in the country with cutting edge equipment for clinical and research purpose. Facilities is one of leading centers in Spinal cord injury and Pain and Rehabilitative centers. Rheumatology, Podiatry, Endocrinology and Orthopedic surgery services are very active and integral part of Central Virginia VA Health care system. Radiology service performs few thousand Musculoskeletal MRIs and CTs. Radiology & NM service is in multidisciplinary collaboration with other departments. Department is part of one of major radiology residency programs from VCU with 36 residents in the program. Department has some research collaborations with other large academic institutions and part of multiple industry sponsored research.

VA Richmond provides a full-integrated electronic medical records system and fully digital Radiology Department. The department performs approximately 120,000 examinations per year. Department supports 7 Radiology residents from VCU at one time. We have Mckesson PACS, Powerscibe, Vitrea, Tera-Recon and Dynacad and Syngo Via software. Service performs all advanced imaging including Interventional procedures.

Duties included, but are not limited to:

Every radiologist spends significant time in their area of expertise and rest in general area which includes Plain film, Fluoro, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and some minor procedures. Some responsibilities can be performed remotely. Responsibilities also include teaching residents and performing some clinical research/PQI. Academic, administrative and research activities will be supported with protected time. Starting salaries are around 300K, final decision is made by the compensation panel depending on qualifications and experience. Maximum salary cap for Radiologist is 400K. Current average RVU per radiologist 6000-6500 at the facility. Candidates should be eligible for academic appointment at the Assistant/Associate or Full Professor level at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM (Various tours include weekends, Holidays and evenings)

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: American Board Certification, Radiology is highly preferred

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Functional requirements include Light to Moderate Lifting (15 - 44 lbs.); Light Carrying (15 lbs. and under); use of fingers; both hands required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Both eyes required Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
