About the Position: This is an open continuous public announcement for positions being filled under the Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for Police Officers.

The first cut-off date for consideration of applicants will be December 18, 2020. Subsequent cutoff dates will be the end of each month as needed, until the announcement closes.

This a developmental position GS-06 target GS-07. Selection may be made at any grade level with non-competitive promotion to the full performance level of GS-07.

Responsibilities

• Performs Anti-Terrorism (AT) duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
• Responds to, investigates, and resolves most emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
• Control installation entry points to reduce safety threats.
• Prepare sworn statements and in-depth reports based on information gathered in the investigation.
• Pursue and apprehend persons and perform booking procedures.
• Perform access control and patrol duties to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage, and espionage to enforce the security regulations of the installation.
• Conduct long and short term investigations.
• Conduct traffic surveys and make recommendations to alter installation traffic patterns.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment.
• Incumbent must possess a valid State-issued driver's license.
• This position requires a Secret Security Clearance.
• This position requires Firearms qualification testing.
• This position requires incumbent to submit to random urinalysis exams and sign a DA Form 5019 drug testing position form.
• Incumbent must successfully complete pre-placement and annual physical examinations.
• Incumbent is required to wear a uniform that must be clean and possess a sharp and crisp appearance.
• This position is designated as a Mission Essential position.
• The position requires working rotating shifts and may require working overtime as well as on-call duty.
• The position requires certification in CPR techniques and knowledge of first aid.
• This position requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in case of chemical/hazardous emergency.
• This position requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN)/Washington Area Law Enforcement System (WALES) certification.
• Incumbent must obtain and maintain Virginia certification in the operation of the Model 5000 Intoxilyzer Breathalyzer.
• Incumbent must meet the minimum standards IAW AR 190-56.
• This position requires the incumbent obtain and maintain law enforcement certification.
• This position requires certification in various radar equipment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-06

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 in the Federal government, which includes: responds to and investigates emergency calls. Exercises search and arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses. Collects and preserves evidence. Conducts investigations on criminal cases. Performs required lifesaving first aid in the event of an emergency. Issues traffic citations. Sets up road blocks, traffic-control points, and directs traffic. Performs access control duties. Answers visitor questions and provides assistance. Uses law enforcement computer programs reports concerning all incidents and action taken. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 in the Federal government,which includes responds to and investigates emergency calls. Exercises search and arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses. Collects and preserves evidence. Conducts investigations on criminal cases. Develops case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspect to trial. Appears in court to testify at court proceedings. Performs required lifesaving first aid in the event of an emergency. Conducts civilian training regarding various law enforcement topics. Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol. Issues traffic citations. Sets up road blocks, traffic-control points, and directs traffic. Performs access control duties. Answers visitor questions and provides assistance. Assures criminal or Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) measures are met to protect installation command and assure mission accomplishment. Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal. Uses law enforcement computer programs reports concerning all incidents and action taken. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education
