The Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives must have an appreciation for both high quality programming, consistent with the GMU Scalia Law's reputation, and business modeling and measuring outcomes consistent with business modeling.

About the School: George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School is the law school of Northern Virginia and is strategically located in Arlington, VA, just two miles from downtown Washington, D.C. Antonin Scalia Law School is a Top 50 law school, and a jewel in the university's crown. A relatively young law school, Scalia Law is a unique phenomenon, accented by a steadfast commitment to a no-nonsense, interdisciplinary curriculum anchored by economic analysis. The school occupies a unique place in legal education, with seven interdisciplinary centers including internationally known programs in Law and Economics and Antitrust; a globally impactful publishing faculty; and relationships with key national policymakers who employ many law graduates in the Capital. The school has more than 7,000 living alumni, many of whom are first-generation lawyers.

Responsibilities: Strategic Analysis & Planning: The Associate Dean examines current programs and identifies/implements growth opportunities within those programs; identifies new revenue generating program opportunities; develops annual and long-range forecasts for the non-JD Degree programs.

Financial Planning & Management: Together with direct reports and the Director of Finance, the Associate Dean develops and monitors an operating budget for all non-JD Degree programming, including but not limited to the costs associated with marketing and recruiting, building or expanding programs, instructional design, etc. The Associate Dean measures non-JD Degree financial performance against plans/targets. The Associate Dean approves expenditures toward non-JD Degree programming.

New Non-JD Degree Program Development: As new program opportunities are identified; the Associate Dean assumes responsibility for working with the Executive Team and GMU's central administration on appropriate program approvals.

Marketing & Recruiting: The Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives oversees marketing, recruiting, and enrollment for non-JD Degree programs. The Associate Dean works collaboratively with the law school's communications team and JD Degree team on coordinated messaging for the non-JD Degree programs.

Supervision and Oversight: The Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives supervises full and part-time personnel, including consultants, working on non-JD Degree programs, but understands that he or she performs duties independently with limited support staff.

Required Qualifications: * MBA or JD, or a comparable advanced degree, or significant relevant experience of more than seven years; * Relevant experience of at least five years involving innovation and business creation/operation; * Proven leadership skills, involving problem-solving, data-management and data-driven decision-making, innovation, results-orientation, strategic-thinking, and budget-planning and budget-success; * Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external constituents; * A work ethic of dedication, being positive, transparency, respectful of co-workers and students, instilling confidence in others, and committed to an open and diverse workplace.
