The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Visiting Scholars conduct research on important issues related to the United States, Europe and World Order at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC During the academic year 2019-2020 the university intends to host the following scholars: - 1 academic year scholar for a nine (9) month period from September 2019 to May 2020 - 2-3 short-term scholars for an in-residence period of between 1 and 3 months Scholars are integrated into research, training, and outreach activities of the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Professor at the university. During the academic year 2019-2020 research and related activities will focus on Europe's role in global order. Scholars will join a cohort of post-doctoral fellows who will focus on this subject during a regular series of high-level seminars, peer review sessions, and opportunities for direct engagement with senior foreign policy practitioners and leading scholars of statecraft and world order. Each scholar is expected to complete a research paper during the period of residence according to the terms of the assignment entered into with the Foundation. To view the posting seeking long term scholars, visit Applicants must have a doctorate or be at the post-doctorate level, have demonstrated research capacity, be fluent in English, and be eligible for a J-1 visa. Preference will be given to those who are no more than 6 years beyond completing their dissertation, although others are also eligible. For the short-term scholars, preference will also be given to qualified and competitive candidates from Austrian institutions, but we encourage applications from candidates from other countries as well. Stipend Each scholar will enter into a research assignment with the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation and will receive a monthly stipend of up to $5,000, minus US taxes; an office with computer; Internet access; access to Johns Hopkins University libraries and other facilities. Each scholar is expected to take care of his/her travel, accommodation, health care coverage and living expenses. Application Procedure Each applicant should submit the following (in English): 1.
