The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote population health, protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' equitable access to health services and information.

The agency is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Nursing Research Education Coordinator (NREC) within the Health Services Division (HS). The Nursing Research Education Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the department-wide coordination of the Nursing Research Education Program; coordinates and schedules training activities for the various public health service programs in Health Services. Actively researches, creatively designs, implements, and evaluates effective methods to train and develop skills, knowledge, and abilities required for successful performance in adult learners. Develops orientation programs for new HS employees and training activities for existing staff. In collaboration, with the Workforce Strategist and Human Resource Manager, supports orientation efforts of new employees in in other agency divisions. Provides professional consultation and guidance for employees, supervisors. Collaborates with community partners to address public health needs. Assists the Health Department in creating high quality Public Health experiences for nursing students and intern programs by serving as liaison between HS Division and universities. Facilitates research opportunities with the Health Services. Directly manages and provides oversight and direction to the HS Staff Development team. Participates as a member of the Workforce Development Committee and other committees, and/or work groups as assigned.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus five years of post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education, including three years in a public health/community health setting. Qualifying experience may include experience in ambulatory care settings such as outpatient clinics that incorporate community outreach/education as part of services or specialty settings that incorporate teaching, community outreach, resource referrals, etc. as part of a health care continuum; Plus at least one year of supervisory experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Possession of current license or a multi state licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Valid motor vehicle driver's license.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within 60 days
  • AED certification required within 60 days


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background investigation, a Child Protective Services (CPS), a driving record check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preferred candidates will hold a master's degree in public health, public administration, nursing, or a related degree.
  • At least three years of curriculum development with the ability to develop and improve curricula and assess the effectiveness of curricula and instruction; proven ability to focus training on staff growth and future performance; has experience developing and implementing a Leadership Development curriculum;
  • Experience in equipping staff with skills and behaviors that drive performance such as; Coaching, Accountability, Change Management, Influence, and Communication;
  • Ability to synthesize data at an operational and strategic level; experience with competency based assessments, i.e. Learning Gap Analysis, a plus;
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills to include presentation skills; demonstrate interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population and ability take initiative and be proactive in addressing challenges.
  • Community engagement work - Develop staff skills in the area of community engagement (PH 3.0); Proven ability in building strong partnerships internally and externally to the department.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook, experience with Adobe Captivate, Adobe Presenter, and SharePoint, a plus.
  • Will have at least two years supervising professional level staff.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, and requires walking, standing, sitting (for long periods of time), and kneeling, reaching, bending, climbing stairs; uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer; ability to drive a motor vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Employee may be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Generally, works in an office environment yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting . All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
