Sr. Experience Design Director

The successful candidate will be passionate about Small Businesses and entrepreneurship. They will have a proven track record of developing a vision, driving the action plan, and leading the design function to deliver top-tier results. They will exhibit excellent people leadership skills to leverage the capabilities of peers, business partners, and associates along with the ability to effectively influence the Capital One executive leadership team. Strong business judgment, communications and analytical skills are essential. They will be a team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment and multi-task with strong attention to detail.

What we're looking for...

• Track record of leading the product design for successful and widely respected web and/or mobile products and services

• Deep understanding of end user instincts backed by experience designing these products and services

• Demonstrated ability to strategically influence and build consensus among senior leadership while representing and championing design

• Strong people leader of designers and engineers with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization

• Talent magnet in the team building process with a history of hiring world class people and passionately supporting team needs and development

• Experience leading concept-to-deliver design teams

• Highly collaborative, energetic and results-oriented, working hands-on in a fast-paced software development environment

• Ability to connect analytical data with practical solutions in a real-world environment

• Demonstrated ability to employ judgment and experience to make rapid and complex decisions

• Exceptional planning and execution skills

• Deep curiosity for consumer products - downloading the latest apps and critiquing what works and what doesn't

• Passion to change the world through one's work

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Drive comprehensive vision for Small Business customer experience across all lines of businesses

• Have a seat at the table as a core member of the Small Business Leadership Team

• Educate, advocate for, and advance design partnerships and relationships with Small Business executives, business sponsors, and delivery partners

• Prioritize cross LOB efforts, resources and needs for Small Business design groups

• Frame metrics, goals, OKRs and evaluative benchmarks for Small Business design outcomes, efforts, and methods

• Engage and partner with all relevant Capital One groups to advance digital maturity of Small Business Design

• Drive change in enterprise functions and processes across HR, Finance, IT, and other parts of

the business to enhance effectiveness of the Small Business Design group

• Represent Small Business Experience Design in the larger Capital One Experience Design community and Small Business community

• Educate senior leadership about design capabilities

• Define team, talent, partnership, and organizational models to support the design of Small Business experiences

• Set goals and metrics for Small Business design team and metrics for experience infrastructure

• Coordinate Small Business design needs with shared enterprise resources

Basic Qualifications:

• At least 8 years of experience in UX design leadership roles

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience with a digitally savvy organization

• 5+ years of experience in a start-up environment

• Prior experience running a small business or a deep connection with a small business owner is highly preferred
