Risk Manager- Card Risk Control Advisory Team

As a Risk Manager (Manager level) in the Monitoring, Analytics, and Control Health (MACH1) team, you will have the chance to help develop and shape the US Card strategy for preventing, detecting, and monitoring risk.

As the leader for the Control Advisory Team (CAT) within MACH1, you will be in a unique role with the three lanes of leadership: people , process , and thought leadership. All of these are some awesome, exciting opportunities to craft a vision for the future while you support US Card's Well-Managed journey. A relatively new team, the CAT function is evolving and ripe for carefully designed processes, documented structure, and a strategic roadmap. You'll lead and oversee 3 major buckets of work, which boil down to a need for you to be a control ninja:
  • Control Consultation: Think of these as your rocks. These are large changes to the way Capital One works, does business, or reports results. You and your team will sit with business POCs to help make sure their process changes are executed in a well-managed way.
  • Control Change Management: Think of these as your pebbles. These are generally smaller support projects where your team's expertise helps protect the integrity of the Card control environment.
  • Control Maintenance Oversight: This important body of work is like the sand. These PRIME and requirement experts help coordinate detailed, accurate documentation of control activities.

In addition to those three buckets of work, you'll be a key leader in the MACH1 senior leadership team, and be lucky enough to be a peer to some truly amazing coworkers that are wildly passionate about the mission of the MACH1 team.

Across those buckets of work, you'll have the opportunity to shape your role as a world-class service provider; you will build an interaction model with partners from all over the organization. You'll partner with internal Card Risk teams in a fun, fast-paced environment. This role will be key in the evolution in US Card, where we are working to make risk management a competitive advantage for Capital One.

We are looking for someone dedicated to doing great work with a keen attention to detail. Your communication and influence skills will need to be top-notch. The ideal candidate for this position would be pretty nerdy about controls, finding joy in the proper construction and mapping of a well-managed control. It's also a big plus if you have experience with a Risk and Controls System of Record.

General Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate curiosity and aptitude to understand the control environment within US Card, covering all control domains
  • Lead your team and foster an inclusive culture that enables the team to elevate each other
  • Oversee work for your team while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Plan objectives/required actions to complete a project or process redesign effort (evaluating solutions and resources, assessing current state)
  • Meet with US Card leaders and their teams to share results, gather requirements, and support root cause analysis
  • Document processes and projects (creating reports, presentations, business cases, and diagrams)
  • Actively participate in team-oriented efforts; build productive relationships with Risk Managers aligned with the Accountable Executives across Card
  • Manage multiple tasks independently to meet deadlines
  • Lead and set positive example by adhering to Card Talent Profile standards
  • Administrative tasks (responding to e-mails, phone calls, and general inquiries)

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification
  • At least 4 years of experience in Process Management or Project Management
  • At least 3 years of experience in People Management
  • At least 2 years of experience working with controls that mitigate or manage risk

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience working with PRIME, or Fuse, a GRC System of Record
  • Knowledge of COSO internal control or the Capital One Control Standard
  • Lean, Agile, Six Sigma, Business Process Management, or Project Management certification
  • 2+ years of experience in Compliance or Risk Management
  • 5+ years of experience in Process Management

At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
