Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Supervisory Government Information Specialist (Director, Privacy Policy) to support Senior Director on internal DHS working groups and interagency policy committees (IPC), sub-IPCs, and interagency working groups related to information sharing, data aggregation, new technologies, including biometrics, and privacy protections.

Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Government Information Specialist (Director, Privacy Policy) GS 0306 15, your typical work assignments may include:
  • Analyze privacy laws, regulations, policies, situations, and trends.
  • Identify and assist with review and adjudication of complex, high profile and high-risk programs.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, lead, counsel, and evaluate performance of subordinate staff.
  • Develop and document findings, conclusions, and recommendations, included in the final report for execution by the Chief Privacy Officer.
  • Participates in top-level meetings with department officials and contributes advice on privacy policy.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level (starting salary $144,128) if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:

- Managing and implementing activities involving privacy policy compliance reviews;
- Providing liaison and evaluation on privacy policies and programs to component organizations and stakeholders in accordance with federal and state laws;
- Conducting investigations on privacy policy issues;
- Develop major aspects of the Departments privacy policies programs: And
- Analyzing privacy laws, regulations, policies, situations and trend analysis to prepare reports and recommendations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service.
