Responsibilities

Works with higher graded technical and professional staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience that augments training in an academic course of study.
  • Performs basic tasks using equipment or software to support IT specialists or other higher-grade personnel.
  • Carries out specific tasks of limited scope and complexity which are generally minor phases of a larger project or assignment utilizing basic methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of databases.
  • Checks data for completeness, validity and consistency, correcting erroneous data.
  • Revises and updates existing programs per instructions.
  • Assists with the troubleshooting and maintenance of computer related communications services.
  • Assists in miscellaneous office duties such as filing, typing, answering phones as necessary.

  • Must be a US Citizen to be eligible for conversion to competitive service.


To be appointed to this position, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying academic institution at the time of appointment, and must maintain such enrollment throughout the duration of the appointment. Upon completion of requirements for graduation and successful completion of the internship program requirements (i.e. work hours, satisfactory performance, training, etc.), a DOL Pathways Intern may be eligible for non-competitive conversion, at the agency's discretion, to a term or permanent position in the competitive service. Appointee must be a U.S. citizen in order to be eligible for conversion to a permanent position in the competitive service upon completion of the Pathways program.

Students expected to receive credit for two (2) full academic years of post-high school study (or an Associate's degree) by the end of Spring 2021 may apply. Current students must plan to continue their enrollment through the internship.

GS-04 Qualification Requirements

- Successful completion of two (2) full academic years of post-high school study, or an Associate's degree. Students expected to receive credit for two (2) full academic years of post-high school study (or an Associate's degree) by the end of Spring 2020 may apply.

Eligibility Requirements

- Applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution , for the purpose of obtaining a diploma, degree, or certificate. Current students must have a grade-point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrate that enrollment will continue through Summer 2020 or Fall 2020. If appointed, you must maintain such grade point average throughout the duration of the internship.

You must submit with your application a current unofficial academic transcript and/or other documentation from your academic institution demonstrating your eligibility for appointment. In addition, you must submit academic transcripts demonstrating that you meet the qualification requirements. This may require submitting transcripts from multiple academic institutions. If you do not submit sufficient academic documentation necessary to demonstrate that you meet the eligibility and qualification requirements described in this announcement, your application will be deemed incomplete and you will be ineligible for further consideration.

Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service.
