In this position, you will work as a trainee in the information technology occupation and work under the supervision of a higher level IT Specialist. Typical assignments include:
  • Observing various specialties in the information technology occupation
  • Performing highly structured entry level IT work
  • Communicating factual and procedural information

Qualifications

You qualify for this position at the GS-05 level if you have:

Have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in Federal service which demonstrates skill in gathering facts and analyzing user needs to contribute to Information Technology (IT) solutions. Examples may include troubleshooting problems for customers on an IT Helpline; gathering and updating information on collaborative sites, compiling data on user needs to identify software solutions, and assisting with implementing IT policies or procedures.

OR Successfully completed a full 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer field.

OR Combination of post-high school education and experience that when combined, meet the qualification requirements for this position.

AND All Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and provides valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Education

    Pathways Internship Program Eligibility: To be eligible for the Pathways Internship Program, you MUST :
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited high-school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges) or a professional, technical, vocational, or trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on at least half-time basis as determined by the school;
  • Currently have and maintain a Grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) and be in good standing;
  • Provide a copy of your transcripts (either official or unofficial); proof of student status; or a letter on your institution letterhead which provides a list of courses, grades earned, grade point average, completion dates, and quarter or semester hours earned or that you are enrolled in the next available term;
  • Remain enrolled at least half-time to continue to be eligible for the Pathways Internship Program; and
  • If you are graduating after 04/2021, you must provide documentation of enrollment in another qualifying program to be eligible for this position

  • Program Completion and Conversion: This is a temporary summer position not to exceed 90 days, but may be extended for an additional 30 days not to exceed 120 days total.

    NOTE : If you are qualifying based on education and/or are selected for a position which requires a college degree to meet minimum qualification requirements, you will be required to submit your official college transcript(s) at time of selection.
