Job DescriptionJob Summary The Director of Inter-Professional Education and Development is accountable for leading professional development and clinical education of the multidisciplinary patient care associates and leaders within MedStar Health Home Care. In conjunction with executive leadership, the Director leads education and professional development activities and programs which foster the professional practice and ongoing development of clinical personnel. The Director guides and recommends development of best practices with patient care service departments; assists department leaders in the development of department-based initiatives in the areas of clinical care, staff development, education, and compliance with external regulatory and accreditation standards. The Director of Inter-Professional Education and Development leads the team of RN Clinical Training Specialists and Mentors and collaborates with and incorporates best practices from the Therapy Clinical Regional Manager and Therapy Clinical Mentors. The Director oversees the assessment, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of learning and ongoing development programs to enhance associates' performance and competencies in the home healthcare environment. Minimum Qualifications Education/Training: Master's Degree in Nursing Education, or other related Healthcare Administration degree from a nationally accredited program is required. Experience: 3 years of progressively responsible roles in nursing. Home healthcare experience is required. Experience in nursing education or professional development is preferred. Leadership or supervisory experience is preferred. License/Cert/Reg: License as a registered nurse in the State of Maryland/Virginia and District of Columbia is required. Certification in Nursing Professional Development or Nursing Education from a nationally recognized nursing organization is preferred (required within 2 years of tenure). BLS required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment. Business acumen and leadership skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively interact and collaborate with all levels of management, internal departments, external agencies, and MedStar entities (including cross-functional knowledge and savvy). Advanced knowledge of various computer software applications and online learning applications, especially Microsoft PowerPoint and online training platforms. Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Assumes leadership for the planning, development, execution and ongoing evaluation of MedStar Health Home Care's multidisciplinary (nursing, therapy, medical social work) training, ongoing development and education programs. Assesses learning needs through formal and informal approaches to determine knowledge and educational gaps and priorities to meet the learning needs of associates. Applies teaching techniques that promote critical thinking and evidence-based practice incorporating principles of adult learning theory. * Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures adherence to MedStar Health and entity/business unit policies, procedures, standards/guidelines and those of regulatory and accreditation agencies; assists in the development and execution of corrective action plans when deficiencies occur. Collaborates with clinical leaders and other department heads, including nursing practice and informatics, in addressing priorities and implementation of effective educational/training programs - in the classroom, online, and in the clinical field. * Plans orientation programs for new personnel to facilitate a new associate's transition to MedStar's home healthcare practice environment and meets competency assessment requirements in conformance with departmental objectives, regulatory requirements, value-based purchasing requirements, patient experience requirements, and accreditation standards. Provides oversight to the agency-based orientation of associates new to home health and/or entity. Supports transition to practice for newly licensed nurses using the MedStar's New to Practice Nurse Residency Program model. * Provides expertise for competency development, assessment and management across the department of nursing and other home healthcare clinical disciplines - physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and medical social work. Sets the standard, plans, and regularly conducts competency validation programs for nursing associates and other clinical disciplines in partnership with discipline experts/leaders. Maintains appropriate documentation of these programs and activities as required by regulatory and accreditation standards. Supports clinical peer review in an evidence- based practice environment. * Plans and implements continuing/ongoing education activities to expand current knowledge and to inform, teach, and facilitate adoption of new procedure
