This position will be located at our headquarters in our Germantown, MD. Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the Network Engineer is primarily responsible for supporting the overall daily operation, administration, configuration and project implementations of our enterprise network environment (WAN, LAN, WLAN, Load Balancers, VoIP and Video). Responsibilities:Participate in the daily operational activities/provide day-to-day analysis, proactive maintenance, and performs independent complex network system troubleshootingProvide strategic technical direction, roadmap, design, installation, and configuration of all network systems and servicesResearch emerging technologies in the area of communication and collaboration, and maintain up-to date knowledge on vendors and their product linesPlan and execute of pre-release validation and verification, software and hardware compatibility, release test and validation, and upgrades to meet service level objectivesParticipate in the enterprise network project prioritization and budget formationFormulate and establish best practices and standards for the enterprise network environmentImprove the operation and monitoring of advanced or complex features, and development of support processes and proceduresGather and update necessary information (projects and incidents) and communicate to appropriate parties/stakeholdersUtilize experience, technical knowledge and skills to identify and optimize capacity and performance issues for highest service availability and integrityAnticipate, prevent and eliminate problems and create efficient bugs and fixes for any patches/vulnerabilitiesPerform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobsCreate and maintain detailed network documents and diagrams including all associated linksAssess risks and impacts arising from a business disruption and make decisions and determine actions independently and expediently to eliminate those risks and ensure continuity of businessManage and facilitate elimination of problems and roadblocks before they occurWork cross functionally and interacts with internal and external peers and managers to exchange complex information and formulate plans related to areas of specializationComply with the Project Management methodology and the PMO processes on any technical projects and initiativesMentor, coach and train less experienced members of the team and user communitiesAs a primary or secondary support staff participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation and associated incident/problem resolution, periodic communication update, RCA, remediation plans, tickets closure, etc.Customer focus result oriented, relationship building and partnering with internal and external clients and service providersBasic Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications or related technical degree or combination of education and experience.4+ years' network and system administration and experience supporting network protocols, systems and products (Cisco, Aruba, F5, LifeSize, HP)4+ years of experience with intermediate knowledge of load balancers, firewalls and wireless technologies and security4+ years of layer 2 and 3 routing, and WAN related technology, including EIGRP, BGP, OSPF PfR, VRFs, MPLS, DMVPN, VTP, HSRP, VPN and QoS.3+ years' experience using networking monitoring tools such as HP Enterprise Management tools-set, SPLUNK, Cisco Prime, and TACACSOne or more active networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, etc.Preferred Qualifications:Strong knowledge of data communications principles, architectures and protocols including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VoIP, SIP, WAN and Ethernet technologies to design and implement efficient network configurations and interoperability troubleshooting skills (data, voice and video)Deep knowledge of the practices and principles of telecommunication systems analysis, planning, design, and problem resolutionProject Management skills (PMP)Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills EchoStar and its Affiliated Companies are committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
