Position Overview:

The Surveillance Team within the Asset Management and Operations Department of Multifamily is responsible for detecting and managing credit, regulatory, and reputational risk to Freddie Mac that comes from loans or bonds in Freddie Mac Multifamily's investment, transitional, or specially serviced portfolio! The Physical Risk Team helps detect and manage the risk that is related to property condition, valuation, or operational deterioration at the asset level for the purpose of identifying and measuring that risk in order to accurately value, price, or improve the risk profile of the assets. The Physical Risk team works closely with many other groups in Asset Management, Freddie Mac Multifamily, our Optigo customer network, and the US Multifamily industry in general!

Our Impact:

  • Recommend physical risk lending and servicing standards to the Credit Policy area within Multifamily (Guide Requirements), and to Asset Management Department
  • Develop and maintain currently accurate, practical, and approved departmental procedures

Your Impact:
  • Recruit, train, and lead Physical Risk team members
  • Develop and deliver training to Multifamily staff and Optigo lenders on topics directly related to Physical, Valuation, or related credit risks
  • Provide internal consulting services on Physical, Valuation, or related credit risks
  • Participate in and contribute to the new product development process
  • Review and approve assigned high risk business activities such as Valuations, Risk Ratings, Business Plans, Impairment Reviews, and Fraud Reviews

  • 15 years of progressive managerial experience in Commercial Construction, Development or Property Management or similar experience in Commercial Property Underwriting and Lending within a complex, high volume, well-controlled regulated business
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Real Estate, Finance, or Engineering
  • Understanding of and experience with technology productivity tools, specifically Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point)

Keys to Success in this Role:
  • Basic understanding of securitized lending structures such as CMBS, and the parties and roles within those structures
  • Basic knowledge of US Multifamily Markets with some experience throughout the United States
  • Understanding of Affordable Rental Housing
  • Good understanding of Income Producing Property Appraisal practices and standards
  • Experience in contracting with and supervising Vendors and Consultants
