Summary

The AARP State Office of DC is seeking an assertive student with excellent writing skills, communications experience and who enjoys a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment to join its team. The intern's work will include assisting the District of Columbia State Office with State branding through writing, editing, event planning, fielding and directing media calls, proactive media relations, developing media materials, and crisis communications. The intern must be available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week, February 2021 through December, 2021. This is a paid internship.
Responsibilities

Sample specific projects and duties include:
  • Prepare and assist communications for all State-led engagements.
  • Develop Caregiving promotions targeting Veterans and Millennial Caregivers, respectively.
  • Provide E-newsletter content - that fits template requirement & links to AARP DC blog.
  • Create and schedule social media posts - pre-event/during/post content.
  • Work with Assistant State Director- Communications to identify posts for paid promotion.
  • Manage Facebook Live during events.
  • Create at least 3 original videos with content that supports work outlined in state plan.
  • Draft 3 blog posts (1/month) for the AARP DC blog.
  • Create and schedule fun social media posts for each month - connected to the enterprise themes.
Requirements

Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students.

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
