LAND SURVEY ANALYST

An Overview
A Land Survey Analyst performs technical and skilled work in an office environment analyzing survey data and preparing plats and survey deliverables using a personal computer, computer aided drafting and other engineering applications software. An employee in this class performs complex mathematical computations to prepare and analyze land surveys and survey drawings, mapping information, and to store and manage electronic data files. An employee in this class schedules and assigns work to survey Party Chiefs and makes recommendations as to the methods and procedures used to complete work. Work is performed under the general supervision of a certified land surveyor who makes general assignments and reviews work to assure it is in conformity to land surveying principles, standards, and best practices.

The Opportunity
  • Creates detailed 3D surface models using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and other related software;
  • Reads and interprets RAW survey data from field surveys, performs QAQC on the contents, and processes these RAW files in CAD to create line work and symbols used in final survey drawings;
  • Trouble shoots common errors and issues associated with modern survey technology for both office and field survey software and equipment;
  • Uses mathematical principles and survey applications to perform complex computations for applications including survey control networks and survey measurements;
  • Analysis and interpretation of design plans to produce complex construction stakeout computations (including point files and alignment files) using survey software and CAD, and preparation of associated cut sheets;
  • Coordinates and supervises survey requests and schedules field crew assignments to meet specific project deadlines;
  • High level interpretation of record plats, engineering plans, and other documents to extract information pertaining to a variety of request and questions;
  • Analysis, interpretation, and QAQC of proposed record plats and development plan contents in conjunction with development review;
  • Extensive, thorough research of land records, internal files and plans, and other forms of data to determine property location, description, ownership and geometric configurations;
  • Performs other duties as required.
The Ideal Candidate
To quality for this position all candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED; ability to operate a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet and database programs, and other engineering software; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to analyze and interpret survey data, and ability to prepare drawings from field notes and plats of records using computer aided drafting software (CAD); considerable knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry and trigonometry as it applies to the preparation of survey drawings and legal descriptions; the employee should have the ability to read plans and specifications, and demonstrate considerable knowledge of land-surveying practices.

To be considered as an ideal candidate, one should possess p revious experience in the role of survey project manager or land survey analyst, Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) or Licensed Land Surveyor (LS) license, minimum 4 years of relevant experience under the supervision of a licensed land surveyor, or bachelor’s degree in one of the following categories: Engineering Technology, Land Surveying, or Geomatics.
