Responsibilities

This position is located in the Office of Management (OM), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). OM's mission is to provide critical administrative and operational support services to the OIG. The majority of OM's work can be categorized into operational portfolios responsible for planning and delivering services, such as Information technology (IT), Human Resources (HR), facilities, security, training, and acquisitions.

Being a Facilities Program Specialist makes you a valuable member of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of Management (OM), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). You will provide program level leadership and oversight in managing the DHS OIG Facilities Portfolio as it relates to the Five Year Strategic Plan with a focus on reducing or making the most efficient use of OIG's square footage/physical footprint.. Typical assignments include:
  • Meeting, developing briefs, and presentations to ensure DHS OIG Senior Leaders informed of progress implementing the DHS OIG Facilities Port Folio 5 Year Strategic Plan.
  • Managing the DHS OIG Facility Portfolio 5 Year Strategic Planning Program.
  • Expert oral and written communication skills to include research skills and abilities to identify applicable requirements and provide the guidance needed to formulate plans, policies, and procedures required to execute the readiness, preparedness, emergency management, and continuity testing and training.

Qualifications

Qualifications Example 1 without Education:
You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level performing duties such as:
1) Overseeing and managing a Portfolio of projects (i.e. leases; and contract enactment and management); 2) Experience conducting reviews of facility management projects in accordance with Federal regulations and guidelines; 3) Planning, designing, and executing assignments within regulatory and legal restrictions to ensure the safety and operation of a facility; 4) Experience coordinating with various Federal stakeholders for a major interagency task force, team, or other working group responsible for a national Federal facility migration and/or construction. 5) Experience developing and implementing programs to promote and monitor occupant safety including space utilization, energy conservation, safety, fire protection, and facilities maintenance programs; 6) Advising senior management on new and improved business and management practices for application to Mission Partner or agency-wide programs and operations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
