Responsibilities

As an IT Specialist, you will be responsible for:
  • Identifying and mitigating IT system vulnerabilities through testing, audits, and network assessments;
  • Evaluating new IT systems and products to determine their supportability and impact on IT security and the network;
  • Creating system security contingency plans and data recovery procedures;
  • Developing a variety of system compliance documentation and similar reports on network security compliance for delivery to management;
  • Collaborating with end users to understand their technical needs and identifying areas where there may be security vulnerabilities; and
  • Preparing and delivering training to end users on information security requirements
  • Evaluating systems for risk based on the NIST Risk Management Framework 800-37
  • Ensuring system compliance with all relevant Federal laws and statutes including FISMA, OMB circular A-130, and all Binding Operational Directives

Performs other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to:
1. Supports 24x7x 365 days on IT premises and Cloud operations.
2. Executes projects outside of standard business hours.
3. Fulfills IT cross-function responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

In order to be qualified for this position, you must possess IT-related experience that demonstrates each of the following four competencies: Attention to detail; customer service; oral communications; and problem solving. The competencies are defined as: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their organization-wide needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services; Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience; makes clear and convincing oral presentations regarding technical information; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; Problem Solving - Identifies organization-wide problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Your resume must fully demonstrate how you meet each of these competencies in order to be qualified.

In addition to meeting the four competencies listed above, to be qualified at the GS-13 level you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service: 1) Recommending new or revised security measures and countermeasures based on new security mandates, standards, technologies or threats; 2) Utilizing knowledge of systems security regulations and policies to develop specifications ensuring compliance with security system requirements; and 3) Providing input in the development of processes and procedures to ensure system reliability and accessibility.

In addition to meeting the four competencies listed above, to be qualified at the GS-14 level you must possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service: 1) Developing plans for security systems that anticipate, identify, evaluate and minimize risks associated with system vulnerabilities; 2) Defining the level of detail for security plans applicable to the security program; and 3) Leading projects engaged in the development of processes and procedures to ensure system reliability and accessibility.

The following certificates are preferred, but NOT mandatory at entry:
CERTIFICATIONS:
1. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
2. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
3. Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
4. Project Management Professional (PMP).
