You will serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader in the production division of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Responsibilities

  • You will serve as a working leader over at least three trades and crafts employees.
  • You will diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC) for commercial/ industrial size systems.
  • You will conduct visual and audible examinations of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by exploration of probable reasons for equipment failure.
  • You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment.

  • May be required to serve as an on-call duty mechanic on a rotational basis, required to carry a duty cell phone and/or pager and must main available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours.

Physical Effort: Physical effort is required to maneuver equipment in and out of specific locations while dismantling and reassembling. The work requires frequent carrying and setting up of parts and equipment that may weigh up 50 pounds. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers. The work requires making repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard to reach places; therefore stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling are frequent and may be for long periods of time.

Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside, on top of tall buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Personal protective equipment such as protective clothing, helmets, goggles, respirators, etc. may be required to be worn when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants during regular maintenance and repair or when making emergency repairs.
