Responsibilities

As an Auditor (Recent Graduate) with the OIG, you will serve as a team member on an assigned audit or review and assist senior employees in analysis, interviews, writing, auditing or reviewing results and conducting complex reviews or evaluations across a myriad of DOJ programs. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Evaluating and reviewing surveys and assisting audit survey and verification program development. Applicants hired under this announcement may also be assigned to review small programs or activities of limited scope under supervisory guidance. Applicants also must be able to perform research, conduct interviews, and analyze financial documentation in both a team environment and individually. On larger reviews, the candidate will assist senior employees by gathering and analyzing data and making recommendations based on such analysis.·
  • Composing work papers and summaries for reviews, performing data analysis, including analysis of financial data, and developing draft finding sheets that clearly identify the logic flow. The Auditor submits all work to the electronic work system so that it can be used and reviewed by supervisors and other team members.
  • Supporting audit teams and developing productive and professional relationships through engaging in collaboration and coordination with internal and external parties.
  • Developing skills, testing abilities, and acquiring the knowledge to become well versed in evaluation and review techniques, DOJ programs and finances, legislation and regulations, and industry practices.
  • Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.

Qualifications

Recent Graduate Program Eligibility
  • To meet these requirements, you must have obtained a qualifying associate's, bachelor's, master's, professional, doctoral, or technical/vocational degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous 2 years.
  • Preference-eligible veterans who have been precluded from applying due to their military service obligation have as much as 6 years after acquiring a qualifying degree to apply.
Basic Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must meet one of the of the following basic eligibility requirements to qualify for this position:
  • A degree in auditing or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration; OR
  • 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge with a background that also includes one of the following:

(1) A certificate as a Certified Public Account or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
(2) Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g. 15 semester hours.

n addition to the basic eligibility requirements, applicants must have the following specialized experience and/or directly related education or a combination:

( Note: Specialized experience is paid or unpaid experience that has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position in the practical application of professional accounting and auditing principles, procedures, and techniques successfully.)

At the GS-9 level, applicants must have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent degree or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to performing technical accounting assignments, verifying reports against source accounts, assisting in the preparation of audit work papers, and determining that approved accounting policies and procedures are followed.

In addition to the Recent Graduate Eligibility, applicants must have the following specialized experience and/or directly related education or a combination:
