High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Coordinator

An Overview

The candidate provides clinical services including individual, group and family therapy, psychosocial assessments and case management to HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) and non-HIDTA clients with substance use disorder and accompanying co-occurring emotional, behavioral, psychiatric or other related problems. In addition, coordinates care and program activities with Alexandria Probation and Parole and assists with the development of quarterly and annual program status reports for HIDTA staff.

What You Should Bring

The ideal candidate must have a thorough knowledge of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders, trauma-informed treatment, use of the DSM-V and the ASAM Criteria.

Example of Duties
  • Conducts screening and orientation to program for Probation-referred consumers who have substance use and accompanying emotional, behavioral, relational, legal or other problems.
  • Conducts and documents intake assessments including using standardized instruments to determine level of care need, stage of change and diagnosis.
  • Works with individuals to develop individualized treatment plans based on strengths, needs, abilities and preferences.
  • Provides group and individual therapy to HIDTA-eligible non-HIDTA consumers, applying motivational, cognitive-behavioral and other evidence-based approaches.
  • Provides care coordination or case management services for consumers who present multi-service needs and co-occurring mental health and substance disorders.
  • Provides crisis intervention/emergency services if needed.
  • Coordinates treatment with Alexandria Probation and Parole officers.
  • Prepares a variety of written reports including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, quarterly treatment updates, and reports to referring Probation Officers and HIDTA.
  • Conducts consumer drug screens as needed.
  • Attends staff meetings, relevant training sessions and conferences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Possession of Master’s degreein Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Education or relatedfield; at least two years of post-graduate work experience in providing directclinical services to consumers having one or more substance abuse, psychiatric,and emotional disorders; and licensure or license eligible (has completed allrequired education and supervision as required by applicable board) as a LicensedProfessional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), LicensedSubstance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP) or Clinical Psychologist in theCommonwealth of Virginia at the time of appointment; if license eligible, theemployee must obtain Virginia licensure at the first available opportunity, butno later than one year after appointment; or any equivalent combination ofexperience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills andabilities. Employees must possess a valid driver's license issued by the stateof their residence.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years post masters experience providing direct clinical services for substance abuse, and/or mental health issues; Knowledge of mental health exam, and mental health classification/DSM-V; Minimum of one year of employment in a mental health community agency environment; Bilingual (English-Spanish, skills; Training in Motivational Interviewing; Experience using Credible Electronic Health Record System.

This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: FBI/Federal Records Check; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; education/certifications; and driver’s license.

Schedule:

Work hours will be determined upon offer of employment based on program needs. Program is open from 7:00AM - 8:30PM.
