Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Mobile Equipment Servicer (Motor Vehicle Operation) at Arlington National Cemetery.
  • Service a variety of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (i.e., John Deere tractors, utility vehicles such as John Deere Gators and Toro Workman, both 2 and 4 cycle gas powered.
  • Utilize blueprints and technical publications to aid in decision making when working on various lubricants, cooling system protective agents, and hydraulic compounds.
  • Perform preventive maintenance which involves oil and filter changes on hydraulic systems, lubrications, ensures proper fluid levels in braking system and power steering reservoirs, and drains moisture from air tanks.
  • Utilize up to 1-ton pick-up truck to drive in around the metropolitan area to pick-up tools and parts for the Fleet Division.
  • Operate vehicles with a gross weight not exceeding 26000 pounds to include a 14,050-pound, 25-passenger bus (Class B CDL Required) used to conduct special VIP tours.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Mobile Equipment Servicer (MVO) without more than normal supervision performing common mechanical tasks such as removing and installing wiper blades, light bulbs, checking air pressure in tires and inflate to correct pressure; to charge batteries and add distilled water or battery acid as necessary. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Lifts objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and lifts heavier items with assistance. Incumbent frequently walks, stands, bends, reaches, and works in awkward positions. The incumbent frequently works on top of equipment at heights up to 18 feet above the ground. Physical effort is needed at this level to maneuver the longer and heavier vehicles, especially when backing these vehicles.
  • Working Conditions: Incumbent works outside in all types of weather. Indoor work is done in dirty, oily, and greasy areas where there is constant exposure to cuts, bruises and burns. Incumbent operates motor vehicles on public roads all over the surrounding area in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions.
