The Senior DBA supports mission-critical Oracle databases in AWS RDS/Oracle Cloud and mySQL/Postgres databases in AWS RDS. The Senior DBA creates and maintains databases, troubleshoots all areas of technology affecting database function. The Senior DBA uses breadth of experience to work with other Engineering groups and application managers on decisions regarding software and hardware requirements and configurations. The Senior DBA provides cross-system-training for other engineers in the team to provide reliable backup support. This position can be located anywhere on the East Coast.

Responsibilities
  • Create/Manage Oracle Databases on on-prem servers, AWS RDS and Oracle Cloud.
  • Manage mySQL/Postgres Databases on AWS RDS.
  • Designs database storage and memory requirements to suit applications.
  • Uses OEM to proactively monitor and maintain database performance and growth.
  • Modifies storage and/or memory parameters to address storage or performance issues.
  • Provides management with analyses of database growth and plans to accommodate that growth.
  • Reviews database changes caused by application upgrades for impact on systems.
  • Participates as required in SOx and corporate audits.
  • Enforces security and configuration management within the database.
  • Designs, tests, implements and maintains backup and recovery strategies.
  • Provides prompt and effective resolution to database-centered problems.
  • Performs database and SQL performance tuning
  • Performs code reviews for database programming and provides innovative alternative solutions.
  • Clones or refreshes test and development databases.
  • Coordinates database downtime windows with clients.
  • Works closely with DBAs, Engineers, Infrastructure group, and line managers within and outside the Engineering department to plan for database growth, usage changes, scheduling outage windows, and testing backup/recovery methods and Disaster Recovery plans.
  • Provides effective instruction and/or guidance to others regarding database specific concepts.
  • Serves on project teams in DBA role and as a highly functioning general technical advisor.
  • Provides staffing for systems support to meet Service Level Agreements, including participating in after-hours and on-call support rotation as needed.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; focus in computer science, engineering, business or related technical field preferred
  • 5+ year of experience as DBA (Oracle) with hands on PL/SQL Programming
  • Working knowledge of AWS Infrastructure (IAM, Security Groups, Federated Access, VPC, etc.) (Required)
  • Experience working with AWS stack of Databases (RDS) (Required)
  • Working knowledge of Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail (Required)
  • Strong PL/SQL knowledge (Required)
  • 2+ years of AWS Experience
  • 1+ years of Oracle Cloud experience preferred
  • PowerShell, Unix shell and Python scripting skills
  • Java Programming experience is a plus
  • AWS Certification (Solution Architect is preferred)
  • Demonstrated skills in Oracle database administration, database theory, programming concepts, and problem solving
  • History of providing innovative and timely solutions.
  • Ability to delegate and coordinate maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
