Job Summary/Company:

Sparks Group has teamed up with a women-owned small business, providing global health and international development solutions, and is searching for an experienced Controller. The Controller will oversee the preparation of periodic financial statements in accordance with GAAP, monitor and report financial performance, ensure fiscal deadlines are met and drive efficiency improvements in the current financial and business processes. Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily operations, financial and accounting functions; develop and maintain effective accounting processes and procedures
  • Responsible for all payroll functions including periodic closing processes and preparation of state and federal tax returns
  • Ensure accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliation, in accordance to company policies
  • Oversee preparation of various accounting and financial reports; manages preparation and timely filing of all accounting and financial reports for governmental and regulatory agencies
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
  • Manage financial closings and reporting processes and ensure internal controls are functioning smoothly and correctly
  • Use the knowledge of project cost accounting for a working with federal entities
  • Assist with audit requests; prepare and complete stand-alone audited financial statements and footnote preparation in collaboration with various external auditors and several internal support teams
  • Responsible for implementation of new accounting and auditing requirements; continuously identify efficiencies and improve effectiveness by determining best practices
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required

Qualifications/Background Profile:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration required
  • 10+ years of comprehensive experience required; 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred
  • USAID experience is a must
  • Extensive knowledge of US Government contracting including the FAR, AIDAR, and DCAA audit processes
  • Experience working with ERP software; Deltek Costpoint preferred
  • Ability to quickly obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the various financial reporting and general ledger structures
  • Possess intermediate knowledge in the Microsoft Office applications - strong Excel skills are high preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to be able to present ideas to management clearly and work collaboratively with different teams
  • Detail and process oriented; ability to work on multiple deadline driven projects
