The Research Technician I will perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests, specimen preparations, and experimental procedures for the purpose of research as directed.

The candidate will conduct research focusing on Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1)-associated brain tumor and the role of NF1 in neural stem cell regulation and high-grade glioma/glioblastoma. More specifically, the candidate will:

• Collaborate with experimental and clinical labs to study a variety of biological and biomedical problems related to Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1)-associated brain tumor and the role of neural stem cells and high-grade glioma/glioblastoma;

• Collaborate with bioinformatics team to study cancer genomics data and identify predictive biomarkers or drug targets.


Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree

Bachelor's degree with a major in basic science or related field desired. .

Specific Requirements and Preferences
At least 1-2 years of related experience desired. No supervisory experience required. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Possesses strong mathematical skills and an inquiring attitude. Basic knowledge of lab safety and use of basic lab equipment desired. Attend lab seminars to further research knowledge.

Functional Accountabilities

1. Plan, conduct, and manage search projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies under the direction of the principal investigator.
2. Responsible for appropriate use of research funds and resources.
3. Comply with all annual job-related training requirements.
4. Conduct literature search as directed.

Laboratory Work
1. Perform routine tests under the direction of principal investigator or supervisor.
2. Record and check results for completeness and accuracy.
3. Perform tasks that may require familiarity with fundamental techniques and equipment.
4. Compile information from lab notebooks and journals.
5. Attend courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques.

Project Planning
1. Assist with planning specific research protocols and procedures.
2. Coordinate schedules of tests and procedures.
3. Assist staff to develop and troubleshoot new techniques and ideas.

1. Maintain a log of work performed;
2. Prepare charts, graphs, and results of studies; compile and help analyze data.
3. Maintain all required records, reports, statistics, etc.; prepare summary reports as requested.
4. Maintain and update department policies in regard to procedures, objectives, safety etc.
