Responsibilities

  • Pack a wide variety of electronic and bio-medical instruments such as x-ray tubes, audiometers, EKG machines, recorders, anesthesia apparatus, K-therms, microscopes, lensometers, phoropter heads, laboratory equipment, etc.
  • Select appropriate shipping container by size and type of equipment to be shipped and initiates request for appropriate size(s) if not available.
  • Check documentation to insure that it agrees with the item to be packed.
  • Place cushioning materiel in container, wraps item with vapor barrier materiel as appropriate and seals container.
  • Stencil each box or carton with correct information, determines weight and cube of each container.
  • Operate a computerized FedEx shipping terminal to generate labels for shipping, assures that the correct labels and shipping documents are affixed to the right container.
  • Operate forklifts of from 2000 - 6000 pounds capacity to load, unload, stack, unstack, re-warehouse, and move boxes, crates, packages, pallets, or loose items.
  • Drive vehicles in a safe manner; able to control lift and tilt of load; judges turning radius, braking distances, etc. Utilize safety rules, vehicle capacities, how to load cargo.
  • Fill in for the Material Examiner and Identifier as needed.
  • As a materials handler, the incumbent is responsible for document processing and verification of the condition and quantity of materials handled. Receives general instruction from supervisory or higher grade employee.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a heavy lifting requirement up to 40lbs in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Requires a valid state?s driver?s license; must pass Army approved defensive driving certification course.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a forklift operation certification.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Your resume must indicate your overall knowledge, skills and ability and/or training to perform the duties of Packer (Forklift Operator), WG-7002-06 as stated in the duties of the position without more than normal supervision - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries parts, equipment, and containers that weigh about 40 pounds. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls while operating the forklift truck and raising, tilting, or lowering the loads being moved. Strain is caused by the vibration of the forklift truck. In performing warehousing duties, and loading and unloading truck, operates a forklift or MHE equipment capable of lifting loads up to 20,000 pounds or more.
  • Working Conditions: Work is generally performed inside in areas that are well-lighted, heated, and ventilated. May occasionally work outside or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. Work may sometimes be dusty and dirty. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. Incumbent required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for this position.
