Responsibilities

As an Auditor in the Audits Division, you will:
  • Provide technical assistance for complex audits and carries out other activities in connection with the Agency programs and program participants. Frequently serves in a technical advisory role to match complex audit objectives with technical solutions
  • Perform reviews using appropriate audit techniques, analyze data to support findings, and develop recommendations to correct deficiencies; prepare comprehensive audit work papers documenting audit work performed.
  • Discuss findings and observations with responsible organizational elements, technical representatives and others to develop constructive final report; prepare a comprehensive final report summarizing the audit and/or assurance review results.
  • Meet with top management officials to present audit findings, explain the significance of conclusions, and justify recommendations. Assist in obtaining written responses to recommendations from management officials and follow-up with management officials to ensure corrections are made in a timely manner.
  • Complete a project plan, including a design matrix and establish appropriate milestones that comply with SBA OIG policies and procedures.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet any basic requirements and specialized experience.

Basic Education Requirement :
Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting; OR

Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
  • A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; OR
  • Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.

    Specialized Experience Statement :

    GS-13: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: utilizing professional knowledge of the theory, concepts and practices of accounting and auditing to ensure quality work when conducting audit reviews; analyzing data, drawing conclusions and recommending corrective action; and working as an audit team member ensuring overall projects are accomplished within Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) and other established guidelines and timelines.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    TIME-IN-GRADE : If you are a current career or career-conditional federal employee applying for promotion under Merit Promotion you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks in positions at the next level lower than the position being filled.
