Center for Financial Research (CFR) interns support CFR and DIR Economists in both their Corporate and Research capacities. Their support may include, but is not limited to research intended for publication in peer-reviewed journals, developing analytical datasets and verifying accuracy of the data using statistical programming languages such as SAS, Stata, and/or R; model documentation and code review, analytical and administrative support of ongoing national rule writing and international collaboration, identifying and summarizing research on banking topics, including but not limited to topics on international regulation, small business lending, deposit insurance, provisioning, resolution, and banking history and other research and statistical tasks. Support also includes coordination of seminar visits, maintenance of administrative spreadsheets, support for the Banking Research Conference, and similar requests. The intern's research support will facilitate the FDIC's continued progress towards its goal of being a leader in banking research. Interns gain exposure to government economists' work and a research environment.

Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or successful completion of an associate's degree.

CG-05: Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

Note: One full academic year of undergraduate is 30 semester hours. One full academic year of
graduate/vocational/trades/technical/high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college/university/school. A certificate program must be a 1 year academic program if attending at a full-time status.

Qualifying Experience

CG-04: 1 year of general work experience

CG-05: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04.

Specialized experience for the CG-05 is defined as experience conducting research for economics, finance, mathematics or statistics research projects OR assisting others in evaluating and interpreting economic or statistical information.

If selected, you may be required to serve a trial period.

This appointment may be extended if interns continues to meet all educational and pathways requirements.

The applicants selected will be offered an excepted appointment not-to-exceed 1 Year. After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC's needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position based upon an evaluation of performance, completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program, and a skills assessment. However, service in the FDIC Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.
