Social Work 12-Month Term Faculty

The Department of Social Work at George Mason University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track, instructional faculty position for the MSW online program. Individuals who have excellent clinical social work skills and are committed to academic excellence and training the next generation of social workers are encouraged to apply. About the Department: The Department of Social Work is one of six academic units in the College of Health and Human Services, soon to transition to a College of Public Health, and has internationally recognized faculty for their expertise in areas of behavioral health, older adults, children and youth, and immigration, with a proud history of faculty-student-community research collaborations.

The Department of Social Work offers BSW and MSW degree programs with an educational and research mission focusing on practice and policy interventions that improve health and well-being and promote economic and social justice, particularly for underserved individuals, families, and communities. The MSW program offers a traditional on-campus program, a fully online option, a dual degree program, MSW/MS in Conflict Analysis and Resolution, and plans to offer a dual degree MSW/MPH program in the near future.

The College is home to approximately 1,900 undergraduate and over 950 graduate students who are supported by 120 faculty and staff. Currently, the College offers 5 undergraduate degrees, 12 graduate degrees, and 11 certificate programs and is located in the new Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall that comprises 165,000 square feet of offices, conference rooms, classrooms, and wet and dry labs. In addition, the College has a Population Health Center complete with an fMRI and DEXA scanners and exercise physiology and gait laboratories that will support its clinical care, research, and training mission. Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching 10 courses (30 credit hours) over the fall, spring, and summer terms (typically 4 courses in the fall, 4 courses in the spring, and 2 courses in the summer). The faculty member will primarily teach MSW courses in the online program but may teach courses in the on-campus programs, depending on the needs of the department. Other responsibilities include participation in faculty meetings, university/faculty governance, professional and public service; serving on departmental committees; and performing related assignments such as supervising student projects, experiential learning, and student advising.

Required Qualifications: * Candidates must have an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program; * Two or more years of post-MSW practice experience; * Teaching experience in Social Work education (both online and traditional formats); * Knowledge of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database capabilities; * Ability to work efficiently and effectively with a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications: * Earned Doctorate in Social Work or a closely related field; * Experience with Blackboard as well as online teaching experience; * Strong and recent experience in a clinical setting practicing with individuals, families, and groups.
