The Housing Center at the American Enterprise Institute ( www.aei.org/housing/ ) conducts cutting-edge research and publishes an unprecedented set of risk metrics to improve the operation of housing markets, mortgage lending practices, and housing policy. We are seeking a research analyst or a data analyst to work directly with the center's director and director of research on the full range of the center's initiatives.

Candidates for either title will hold a Bachelor's with at least 2 years of professional experience in the field or Master's degree in economics, public policy, finance, real estate, or data science. The ability to work effectively in a team environment, combined with strong quantitative, communication, and organization skills is required.

- Analyzing data using statistical software
- Cleaning, recoding, imputing, and weighting data
- Draft policy papers and create presentations with charts and graphs
- Conducting analysis to create new housing market indicators and other insights
- Participating in the Center's longer-term research projects

- Knowledge of Stata and Excel (essential)
- Knowledge of SAS, R, Python, ArcGIS, or Tableau (desirable)
As a data analyst, the primary responsibilities include:
- Assembling and validating new datasets
- Creating new datasets by cleaning, merging and matching disparate datasets; assisting in data imputation and weighting of samples
- Maintaining existing databases
- Managing the Center's data resources and identifying database and storage optimizations
- Working with web developers and coders to create new web tools to display the Center's data
- Participating in the Center's longer-term research projects
The ideal data analyst will possess:
- Knowledge of Stata, Python, Excel, and Tableau (essential)
- Knowledge of SAS, R, or ArcGIS (desirable)
- Experience with a heavy concentration of programming and database course work or comparable experience.
