Summary

This position is located in the Office of AmeriCorps State and National, Department of the Chief of Program Operations, in Washington, DC. The Training Specialist will support the Training Manager to administer, coordinate, and evaluate overall training and technical assistance activities for the program office to which assigned. Implements program specific training and technical assistance for external audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Help to develop and/or revise training and technical assistance products and courses, using a variety of training methodologies and software.
  • Conduct training for external audiences on a regular basis, using remote technology.
  • Help to plan and coordinate training and technical assistance activities: personnel, equipment, facilities, and other resource requirements.
  • Support a cross-functional team in planning, developing, and producing the annual AmeriCorps Symposium.
  • Represent the program office with external audiences in respect to educational needs and initiatives; and functions as program office liaison with other internal staff.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the lower range of the NY-03 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes:
  • Consulting on training modality and design;
  • Developing and implementing training;
  • Coordinating, supporting, and facilitating virtual and in-person events; and
  • Performing training evaluation tasks, and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of training to diverse audiences.

  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps VISTA) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.

    Education

    This position has a BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT. The requirement is as follows:
  • Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.
    or
  • Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
