Biomedical Engineering Technician 3 - BMET III - Seeking experienced biomedical engineering technician who has demonstrated experience supporting all types of clinical medical devices in the hospital/ambulatory surgery setting.

The Biomed Engineering Tech III will provide preventive maintenance inspection on medical equipment to meet regulatory and department goals. Will regularly visit and work with customers within the hospital to assure the medical equipment is meeting the needs of the department. Operate Test Equipment necessary to perform inspection and preventive maintenance. Read, follow, and understand manufacturer schematics to repair medical equipment. Provide repair and maintenance of medical equipment. Troubleshoot problems, provide customer with communication as to status, document the work, and follow through in a timely manner. Participate in various levels of medical equipment Selection, Installation, Setup, and Disposition of the medical equipment. Monitor and evaluate the quality of service and documentation provided by manufacturers and third-party service groups. Assist in the development and update of the Medical Equipment Management Plan and contribute to a determination of the level of inspection and preventive maintenance required by each type of device. Consistently engage in special projects (through the selection, installation, adaption, design, modification, or disposition of medical equipment.). Demonstrates project leadership abilities (independently) to manage the process through a timeline, communicate status, and follow through on commitments.


Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED

Specific Requirements and Preferences
HS diploma, GED or equivalent required, plus completion of a two year vocational/technical program or AA degree equivalent in a related field. .

Minimum Work Experience
3 years

Specific Requirements and Preferences
At least 3 - 6 years of experience. 3+ years inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing the following types of Medical Equipment: physiologic monitors; various styles of infusion/ feeding pumps; electrocardiographs; blood pressure monitors; infant incubators; electric beds; nurse call systems; cribs; steris scope washers; OR Lights; OR Tables; radiant warmers; electrosurgical units; defibrillator monitors; patient scales; hypo/hyperthermia equipment; physical therapy equipment; sterilizers; misc equipment used in the Operating room; and some clinical laboratory equipment, such as centrifuges, incubators, slide stainers, shakers, warmers, and flame photometers. At least 3+ additional years experience , troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing the following types of specialized medical equpment: anesthesia instruments; hemodialysis units; ventilators (respirators); advance cardiac catheterization monitoring; lasers; heart-lung bypass machines; Ultrasound; clinical laboratory analyzers; and/ or radiologic equipment (demonstrated through experience from manufacturerÂ's service training or other reliable source and ability to repair such devices on a regular basis without assistance.) .

Functional Accountabilities

Repair Medical Equipment
1. Troubleshoot and repair complex electronic and electromechanical biomedical equipment to subassembly level.
2. Provide on-call coverage as assigned to ensures 24-hour emergency coverage for the hospital.

Prepares Purchase Orders
1. Prepare purchase order request for repair parts, include vendor selection.
2. Follow up and ensure parts have been delivered and installed.

Customer Service
1. Routinely contact requestor in regard to assigned work order to notify receipt and estimated time of arrival.
2. Communicate to requestor steps to complete work order and provide any follow up information.
3. Represent the engineering staff in a professional and helpful manner.
4. When necessary, routinely follow-up with manager to communicate or request assistance in order to complete work orders.

Team & Work Relations
1. Communicate with staff and management to solve problems and improve processes.
2. Support the work effort of the team.
3. Assist new team members with general information when necessary.
4. Acts as a member of the internal engineering emergency response team.
