Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer to join our Live News + Article Team. If you love building performant and accessible applications at scale using component systems, this is a job for you! You should have expertise in a broad range of related technologies and participate in setting Engineering's development standards and best practices. You should also demonstrate a high level of expertise in all facets of web application development and will often be involved in complex assignments.

Responsibilities:
  • Actively participate in defining, solution designing, building, testing, deploying, and supporting of various front-end web applications.
  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices and coding standards across variety of projects.
  • Make recommendations to streamline and automate best practices through CI/CD pipelines.
  • Identify and implement improvements for performance, accessibility, and scalability across a variety of codebases.
  • Ensure application quality through the design and development of unit and end-to-end integration tests.
  • Collaborate with design, product, analytics, advertising, and newsroom stakeholders to provide technical recommendations that meet/exceed engineering and business goals.
  • Mentor other developers through code reviews and coaching/training concepts for in-depth front-end development and capturing of business requirements.


Requirements
  • 5+ years of front-end development experience
  • Extensive React experience is required
  • Demonstrated strong background in performance, accessibility, and building and maintaining component systems
  • Experience with Next.js is a plus
