NeighborWorks America, a congressionally chartered nonprofit organization dedicated to creating places of opportunity in communities across the country, seeks an experienced, forward-thinking and highly collaborative financial leader with a drive for decisive results to serve as its Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (EVP CFO).  NeighborWorks America’s primary mission is to create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives, and strengthen urban, suburban, and rural communities across America. As the financial leader of NeighborWorks America, the EVP CFO provides financial policy and direction while being an active participant in, and driver of, the organization’s overall strategy.

NeighborWorks America and its network of nearly 250 locally governed nonprofit organizations across the country provide on-the-ground support to families and communities in every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.  This critical work is realized through the resourcefulness that is the hallmark of NeighborWorks America and its network of the finest community development nonprofits in the industry.  For over 40 years, NeighborWorks has helped to build technical skills and organizational capacity, supplement resources, and amplify the reach of local nonprofit organizations working to improve their communities.  With headquarters in Washington, D.C., and regional offices nationwide, NeighborWorks is funded primarily by congressional appropriations but also raises money from the private sector and foundations. 

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer will serve as the expert advisor in all financial matters and is responsible for managing its fiscal functions and ensuring its compliance with all regulatory requirements and oversight organizations.   The EVP CFO leads the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, which includes Finance, Human Resources, Procurement Financial Planning, Analysis and Contracts, and Administrative Services and Facilities.  The operating budget for NeighborWorks America is $173MM, with net assets totaling $61.2MM. 

The EVP CFO will address a set of key opportunities and challenges to help ensure the organization’s continuing success, including creating state of the art business operations, systems, policies and procedures to improve organizational efficiency; evaluating and revising all technology systems for financial management;  bringing vision, direction, and long-term strategic thinking to NeighborWorks America’s finance and administration;  conveying effective leadership and management to the business units and service areas of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer; fostering a culture and practice that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion; and building resource reserves and adopting creative financial solutions to support the NeighborWorks America’s mission and operation, and its future goals.

The successful candidate will be an experienced senior financial leader with at least fifteen years’ experience in a senior financial management capacity and seven years’ leadership experience in a non-profit.  The EVP CFO will have managed several business operations departments of a complex organization, and ideally have knowledge of government appropriations and the federal budget cycle process.  The successful candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to speak to a wide variety of audiences.  The EVP CFO will bring demonstrated skill in strategic planning and organizational development and a collaborative, inclusive decision-making style.  The next EVP CFO will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and possess a strong appreciation for the values and mission of NeighborWorks America.  The successful candidate will have a master’s degree, while a graduate degree in business administration, finance, MBA and/or CPA license is preferred.
