Job Announcement

Works as a a senior expert in web technology, and as a key member in a team environment in the E-Gov division of Department of Information Technology (DIT.) Is primarily responsible for web application development and leveraging CI/CD/CS pipelines and cloud-based operations to improve agility, quality, security, resilience, and performance. Designs, develops, implements, and maintains web and mobile application platforms for the enterprise website and for county agencies while meeting Section 508 accessibility guidelines. Provides technical and operational support for county Internet and Intranet initiatives and projects, including planning, design and development of web applications, solution configuration, integration with the county’s on premise and ‘cloud’ IT environments and social media following adopted standards. Also conducts maintenance and troubleshooting and supports Internet/Intranet architecture components including the web farm, web servers, search engine, and web content management system (WCM). Supports and assists with other activities in the E-Gov division.

The position is required to be on rotating call (after hours) for monitoring and supporting the county web environments, and must be available at any time, as needed, for system maintenance and respond to county emergency support and Continuity of Operations (COOP) activities. Participates in other DIT and county activities and events as assigned.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to".) Completion of an associate's degree with course work in computer science or graphic arts; plus internet/intranet experience that is demonstrated by the completion of at least three projects using platforms and technologies listed in the preferred qualifications section of the job announcement, or three years of ongoing internet/intranet development or support tasks. An industry recognized certification may be substituted for some of the experience that is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer related field or five plus years work experience in related field.
  • Strong object-oriented design and programming skills with knowledge of information architecture design.
  • Extensive experience in developing internet/intranet pages, sites, applications, and reports using technologies like .NET Core, ASP.NET, C#, PHP, SharePoint, JavaScript, MS SQL, and Oracle.
  • Good understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery.
  • Understanding of DevSecOps principles, tools, and their application for cloud-native applications including Terraform, Kubernetes and Docker are a plus.
  • Preferably familiar with cloud computing platforms like Azure, AWS and GCP.
  • Experience in application integration with cloud-based services like Microsoft Identity Platform, Microsoft 365, and Power Platform is desirable.
  • Experience on web service integration (SOAP, REST, JSON, XML) and development using web technologies.
  • Experience in search optimization techniques using Google or other, and experience using Drupal or similar WCM.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and analytical skills desired.
  • Four or more years’ experience in developing client-side JavaScript applications and frameworks.
  • Experience operating large scale web farms and daily operations such as troubleshooting, patch management and load-balance is a plus.

The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.

Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
