Responsibilities

The Communications Branch manages the DTS' marketing and communications tools, including the oversight and management of the IT-related content on the JNET. The incumbent is responsible for providing direction and oversight to a team of professionals performing these activities for the department in support of the Administrative Office's mission.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Branch and supervising a diverse staff.
  • Setting goals, planning and implementing programs to achieve those goals. Accomplishing work through delegation, mentoring and coaching staff, aligning duties with staff strengths, supporting a team environment and fostering respect among team members. Inspiring and creating a positive work environment where employees are motivated to do their best to promote the organizational mission and goals.
  • Developing communications materials that present technical information clearly, and that meet the needs of both technical and non-technical audiences. These include presentation materials, memos, executive summaries, white papers, newsletters, and brochures.
  • Working directly with senior management and subject matter experts to define approach to and content of communications materials.
  • Offering constructive feedback on materials produced by subject matter experts and senior managers; editing or rewriting these materials when tasked.
  • Collaborating with internal groups to brainstorm and develop communications strategies as new products and services are introduced.
  • Creating customer-centered web content that enhances the user experience and adds value to hardware and software products.
  • Preparing wireframe designs, flows, and other design specifications for implementing new web pages and landing pages.
  • Improving existing interface designs through the use of interaction layer assessment, best practices, web trends, and available tools for a Drupal environment to enhance the user experience.

  • You will be required to serve a trial period if selected for a first-time appointment to the Federal government, transferring from another Federal agency, or serving as a first-time supervisor. Failure to successfully complete the trial period may result in termination of employment.
  • If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.
  • Relocation expenses may be provided, but only if authorized by the Director of the AO.


  • Qualifications

    Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

    Specialized Experience : Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience required for this position is demonstrated experience as a marketing or technical writer within the information technology/software field.
