Summary

This position is within the Office of Collections, Exhibitions and Programs (P), Division of Registration and Loans (PRL), and is responsible for creating, maintaining and updating records on all works of art owned by or entrusted to the care of the Gallery, and for the location, condition, safety and movement of these works. This position concentrates on storing, recording, location tracking, moving, and handling of the art objects and their crates located in storage areas.

Responsibilities

The incumbent:

Coordinate storage of the permanent collection in off-site locations. coordinate the relocation of objects from off-site storage at Crozier's warehouse to their new storage facility, and leads the team of registrars, art handlers, conservators to facilitate the move. Works with the Chief Registrar on space planning, constructing, and when necessary the renovation of storage spaces.

Coordinates with registrars for the packing and unpacking of works of art for transfer to and from Gallery premise and off-site storage. Manages the movement of works of art and their crates in off-site storerooms and identifies their location in storage. Maintains records for all incoming and outgoing objects of art from off-site storerooms and assists registrars record movement of art to and from in-house storerooms in the collection management system (CMS).

Serves as main contact for off-site storage warehouse. Manages all storage activities that are planned in storerooms. Manges the daily care for the works of art in storage in the Gallery's custody and control, including but not limited to the permanent collection, loans to the collection, and temporary deposits.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.

Specialized Experience Statement :

Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-9 level, responsible for creating, maintaining and updating records on all works of art for an organization or museum.

Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria : Must hold a valid driver's license. Requires extended shifts. Requires weekend and evening work. Travel is required. Must be able to lift 25 pounds and operate lifts.

  • Skill in management for the storage of art objects and the work requires judgment, originality, and resourcefulness to realize objectives without compromising storage standard.
